State Elections
Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins
Governor Candidate
-
Jonathan Kreiss-Tomkins (JKT) is a lifelong Alaskan and former state legislator running for Governor of Alaska. He’s spent his career delivering for working families, and now he’s running to get our state back on track and build a stronger future for Alaska.
Matt Claman
Governor Candidate
-
Matt Claman began representing West Anchorage in the Alaska State Senate in 2023 following the November 2022 election. Before his service in the Senate, Matt served in the State House of Representatives from 2015 through 2022. During these challenging times, Matt effectively represents the interests of West Anchorage and all of Alaska. He’s running for Governor to make sure Alaska’s interests are heard and represented in Juneau.
Matt always puts Alaska first, working across party lines for a responsible action plan for Alaska with common-sense, practical solutions. A responsible action plan includes:
Improving public safety and making wise use of our public safety resources
Balancing the budget and protecting the Permanent Fund
Protecting your constitutional rights, including the right to privacy
Matt is proud to be part of the bi-partisan Senate Majority and serves in a leadership role in the State Senate as Chair of the Judiciary Committee, on the Resources and Health and Social Services Committees, and on the Legislative Council.
Tom Begich
Governor Candidate
-
Longtime Alaskan and former legislator, Tom Begich, has filed to run for Governor in 2026. He had time to speak the Egan Dinner on Friday, August 22. As Joelle Hall explained in her introduction, Tom has a unique talent to bring people together with respectful persuasion. He is a listener and now intends to travel the state to hear the concerns of Alaskans. He will disagree honestly with facts and without rancor.
His record in the legislature speaks for itself. He was chair of the Senate minority for several years, gaining friends and influencing the actions of legislators in Juneau. He has the courage of his convictions and will work to set Alaska back on track after the Dunleavy decline.
Mary Peltola
U.S. Senate Candidate
-
Mary Peltola is a lifelong Alaskan, a mother of seven and a proven champion for all Alaska families. Mary is Yup’ik and grew up in the close-knit communities of Kwethluk, Tuntutuliak, Platinum, and Bethel, where she began fishing with her father at the age of six before becoming a fishing boat captain at age 14, and a herring and salmon technician for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game during college. After being elected to the state legislature at the age of 24, Mary chaired the bipartisan Bush Caucus which helped to pass legislation and influence budgets that improved the lives in rural Alaska. Mary has delivered for Alaska by working across the aisle to secure good paying jobs through the Willow Oil Project; ban foreign trawled fish; and bring home more than $9 billion for Alaska infrastructure, rural broadband, and energy grid improvements.
Mary is running for U.S. Senate, because the politicians in Washington are putting powerful special interests first and leaving Alaskans behind. Mary knows how to win tough races and has won statewide in Alaska before by focusing on her core values of fish, family, and freedom – and she’ll win this race by always putting Alaska first and taking on the rigged system in DC. In the Senate, she will be an independent voice for Alaska and work with anyone or take on anyone, no matter their party, to make life better and more affordable for Alaska families.
Matt Schultz
U.S. Congress Candidate
-
Matt Schultz is running for Congress to lower cost for working families, protect access to healthcare across every region of the state, and deliver a future for the next generation of Alaskans.
Matt Schultz, pastor, community leader, has served Alaskan families for more than two decades, leading through service, organizing volunteers, partnering with local nonprofits, and building programs that meet Alaskans where they are. Successful initiatives include expanding safe, stable housing for Anchorage's homeless community, through undersued properties into long-term, dignified homes. He has counseled Alaskans through illness, addiction, and loss, and those experiences have shaped his conviction that policy should serve real people, not special interests.
Matt and his wife, Elizabeth, have made Alaska their home for decades. They've raised children, built deep ties in their community, and worked tirelessly to make life better for their neighbors. They have organized food drives, supported local nonprofits, and helped families make ends meet.
Matt brings the same roll-up-your-sleeves approach to every challenge: convene people, find common ground, and get results. "I'm running for Congress to help build a future where integrity guides our politics, compassion dirves our policies, and every Alaskan has a fair chance to thrive."
